Mug’Ems and Everyday Dinners Updates – Knorr Classic White Sauce Mix

If you are preparing Mug’Ems as gifts, please be aware that Knorr Classic White Sauce Mix, an ingredient in a few of the recipes, is no longer available. At the time of our original print date, the Knorr Classic White Sauce Mix was widely offered. This has also affected two recipes in Everyday Dinners, a Gifts in a Jar cookbook. We are sorry this item is no longer available and we are making the appropriate corrections to our future publications.

In the meantime, you can use the recipes and instructions below to make your own dry white sauce mix to use in assembling your mugs or jars. All ingredients are readily available. Look for dehydrated butter (or butter powder) in the spices and seasoning aisle of most large grocery stores. One name brand example is Butter Buds.

Good luck with your Mug’Ems and Gifts in a Jar projects. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Classic White Sauce Mix (Makes one large batch)

This recipe makes one large batch of dry white sauce mix, which is enough to assemble many mugs or jars. Combine the following ingredients and store the mixture in an airtight container so it can be used anytime. Simply measure out the required quantity of homemade dry white sauce mix needed in each recipe. For example, if a Mug’Ems recipe calls for 2 T. of Knorr Classic White Sauce Mix, just use 2 T. of your homemade Classic White Sauce Mix instead. This recipe may be cut in half or doubled, depending on the quantity of mugs or jars you plan to assemble.

1 C. dry milk powder
1 C. dehydrated butter, sifted
1 C. all-purpose flour
2 T. chicken bouillon granules
1 ½ tsp. salt

Combine all ingredients and store mixture in an airtight container until needed. To use, follow Mug’Ems recipes as they are written, substituting the same amount of this homemade mix for the Knorr Classic White Sauce Mix listed.

The recipes that call for Knorr Classic White Sauce Mix are:

(Makes the correct amount needed to complete one gift jar recipe)

2 T. dry milk powder
2 T. dehydrated butter, sifted
2 T. all-purpose flour
¾ tsp. chicken bouillon granules
⅛ tsp. salt
